I had run away to the Oregon Coast and promised myself a break from TV, radio, newspaper and computer. Well of course I did not keep the promise. What a joy reading your post Erin! Now I am going to go back to my political break and give myself a mental health does of fresh air. THANK YOU

It would be truly WONDERFUL if Mr. Ewing's victory indicated a widespread repudiation of the anti-trans rhetoric. I'm hoping that this is the case, but I fear that it is merely a one-off. I still maintain that the ultimate victory for us will be won because so many voters will be able to say "I don't buy that anti-trans stuff because I personally know _____. He/she is trans and they are a great person."

"... the era of winning elections by punching at transgender people may be coming to an end."

Let us hope so. Enough is enough.

Hmmm fascinating. So was the incumbent proposing bathroom attendants in every bathroom? I do miss those, I liked getting a splash of perfume and an extra cigarette for a tip. Keeps people from shitting up the bathroom too. We definitely need more bathroom attendants.

This is great news.

Omaha's new mayor, John Ewing, successfully used the same approach that in 2017 helped Danica Roem become the first openly trans person elected to statewide public office in the US, In that election, voters in one district in Virginia grew irritated with constant anti-trans messaging from Roem's opponent while Roem stayed focused on the issue of making the district's roads better. This has also been the approach of Delaware politician and the first trans member of the US congress, Sarah McBride. These two examples suggest that most Americans can get past their prejudices and vote for politicians from marginalized communities if those candidates demonstrate the desire and willingness to represent and serve all constituents on core bread and butter issues.

I haven't laughed that hard at a political ad in a 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 time! Can the DNC take some fucking notes, please? We need more of this. Mockery is and always has been one of the most potent weapons against tyranny.

Such uplifting news! I believe we are beginning the implosion of mean, nasty government at all levels from the 🍊🤡 down to city councils and the realization that transgender humans and the entire LGBTQ+ community are human beings who are not out to get anyone. They want to work, play, marry, and have families like most other human beings. It’s about damn time.

Those calling for genital inspections to prove penis/vagina/both are voyeurs, groomers, and pedophiles. They are not the “christians” they want us to think they are 🤮

Rabid MAGA and anti-trans messaging doesn't seem to work very well when Donald Trump is not on the ballot. And the Constitution clearly says he can never be on the ballot again, at least for president.
