While we follow the legislative and legal battles here, I think it's wise if we keep in mind that our opponents are not necessarily following a legislative or political strategy. They really don't care if these bills pass or not, or whether or not they are struck down on constitutional grounds after they have been passed. A big part of this is psychological, it is innuring the public to gender prejudice. That is precisely why it ties us to the women's movement. And that word prejudice is why it ties us to other obvious minorities. Right now they're just ringing the bell. The legislative and political game board is going to change after the Supremes weigh in. But for right now it's largely tub thumping, extreme right tubthumping.

The usual caveats to these cruel laws apply here - how do you enforce? Determining someone’s biological sex cannot be reliably done without invasive physical exams and/or medical tests. So in the absence of that, enforcers of these laws have to go on physical appearance, gender norms, and the general spectrum of “who is woman enough to use this bathroom”. This plays an unwise and dangerous game of “transvestigation” which can easily snare gender-nonconforming cis people. Any such cis person who thinks they support these laws will quickly change their mind once they get stopped and ensnared by this mess - even if they can “prove” their biological sex afterwards.

I think I’ll travel to Ohio just so I can go in a women’s restroom with my big old beard and super deep voice and talk up some old, gray haired ladies. Maybe they’ll protest these new developments?

I worry you'd still get arrested, subjected to some awful inspection, and then they'd "magically" find some other charge to stick you with

"prohibits these institutions from maintaining multi-occupancy all-gender restrooms."

Once again, cruelty is the point.

If it wasn't then they wouldn't ban the optional creation of gender neutral bathrooms.

Ohio continuing to do anything but fixing actual problems by... creating more problems. I guess it just wants to stay competitive in the worst state competition.

Ohio in recent years has been outpaced by Florida so they're really pulling out all the stops to take back the title.

Gary Clark does not belong in government. He's "pastor" - head scumbag - at Fremont Baptist Temple. You just know this guy's got plenty of personal demons in him to be this obsessed about trans folks. Probably a closet chaser.

Our legislature has been illegitimate for years due to gerrymandering. 5 times the supreme court has 'asked' them to redraw the districts and 5 times they have failed to do so (edit: in an acceptable way that is approved). 100% of the legislature in this failure of a state is illegitimate.

Jimminy Christmas, why don't these bastages just run on "vote evil" and be up front about their intentions? Oh right: one must constantly lie to be properly evil.

It is so crazy like some man is going to go through transition surgery or cross-dress just so they can go in a women’s restroom. I’m 74 years old and I have never ever felt uncomfortable in a restroom.

Supreme Court ruling on Grants Pass is a disturbing sign of things to come:

If the SC is happy to criminalise being homeless, they'll be happy to criminalise being trans too.

It’s a politics. There’s never been a single instance of a trans person trying to do anything inappropriate in a bathroom. They are using the issue to rile up the Christian right and gain votes from haters. They’re not interested in the welfare of the country. They’re interested in raw power so they can get wealthier by manipulating the laws. They are the party of the one percent. It’s class warfare happening. Everything else is a diversion or tactic to gain votes.

Because we're an easy target and they need something to attack in the hopes it keeps them relevant. Also because "trans people icky" or something, I guess.
