Cuomo comes across as arrogant and cynical. Arrogant in believing the public has forgotten all about his first go-around in office. Cynical because even if he’s not a transphobe, be believes something good can come from hiring one.
Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic mayoral candidate and a state assemblyman from Queens, said he attended the rally “to stand up for these children.”
“You need not even know a trans New Yorker to stand up for trans New Yorkers,” he said. “This is a trial of all of us to see who we are willing to give up. And our answer is no one.”
Thank you!! Also, if you're a NYer... Hope this is ok to just ask out of the blue, but do you know about what's going on with trans kids and sports in school district 2? If not, and you'd like to, lmk and I can DM you. TL;DR is the CEC in that district passed a hateful resolution we're working to rescind.
Maybe if he does become mayor of NYC, upstate NY will still remain safe for trans people. Strong Democratic leadership at the statehouse would be required to sustain that, however.
Reporting on so many negative stories must be difficult, Erin. We all appreciate it, as difficult as it is.
On a different topic, I read today that all GAC for veterans is now going to be terminated. Adults. Will there be a story on that soon? That is devastating for the veterans who have served our country.
How many betrayals and how much BS from Dems until the left realizes it’s time to break with Dems and strike out on our own. I’m just sick and tired of headlines like these, but absolutely not surprised.
My senator was among the ten Democrats who helped Republicans pass the fake "continuing resolution" that empowers Trump and guts Medicaid. And Bernie Sanders and AOC are coming to my city on Thursday to shill for the party and sell the same false "we can fix it" BS Bernie's been hocking for a decade (while Dems have only gotten *worse*). They're rallying with Congressman Steven Horsford, who in December voted for the NDAA banning Tricare from covering transition care. Also the rally is in Dina Titus's district and not Horsford's for some reason; Titus notably opposed the NDAA and is more progressive than Horsford, so go figure what their play is there (shifting the blame for their quisling act from right-wing Dems to pro-trans ones imo).
Total garbage party, top-to-bottom. Party of two-faced snakes. Never again will I support anyone with a "D" after their name. They'll help Trump destroy Medicaid and Social Security while blaming trans people for everything. Then they'll expect those of us still breathing next year to vote for them.
During last year's election cycle, the Coalition to Protect Kids worked with powerful religious groups, including the New York Catholic Conference, to spread toxic lies and propaganda from pulpits across the state about gender affirming care and trans athletes. Cuomo's hired a bigot so what does that make him?
Let’s hope Cuomo doesn’t get near the mayor’s office. Whether he is transphobic or not, if the people he hires or associates with are, it’s the same difference.
Because of the combination of name-recognition bias and NYC's particular version of ranked choice voting, it's very important for progressives to say five names together, whenever talking about the upcoming mayoral election. These are mine at the moment, in no particular order. Brad Lander, Zohran Mamdani, Corinne Fisher, Jessica Ramos, Zellnor Myrie.

Zohran Mamdani seems to be the only 🏳️⚧️ ally in the mayoral race
Has he explicitly made statements of support for trans people? I've been trying to find this on all the candidates and can't. (I live in NYC)
And here (I’m a NYer too ☺️): https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/08/nyregion/nyc-trans-health-care-youth-protest.html%20

I know about it but happy to hear more if there’s work to be done—DM away :)

My one-sentence summary of Andrew Cuomo is that his father would be ashamed of him.
His brother seems pretty proud, though, so you have to wonder what went wrong in their upbringing.

My relatives who live in NYC are *definitely* not fond of Cuomo. I hope one of the others has a chance.
Valuable information. Thank you!
I loved him until he showed his true colors. He’s as bad as the 🍊🤡 and fElon MuskRat.

Is this whole "political comeback by a sex pest" thing gonna become a fucking trend now? Thanks, I hate it.
Can't this fucknut just disappear?

As a Brooklynite, I 100% agree. Love, love, LOVE that you got a quote from Mamdani - really like what I've seen from him so far.
