When the Department of Education tells schools they must adopt the administration’s political definition of gender or face enforcement action, that is not law — it is intimidation.
Courts have repeatedly held that the federal government cannot force states or school districts to surrender constitutional rights as the price of federal support.
The consequences of this abuse of power are immediate and severe. Transgender students already face disproportionate levels of harassment, depression, and suicide.

Our school district in Vermont where my three daughters got a great education is one of the named. Here in Maine, where I'm living right now, the districts selected seem somewhat small and remote. Any idea how they made these selections? Maybe local creeps submitted identities of known trans kids to the GOP? Wouldn't surprise me, given hate monger GOP rep Laurel Libby's doxing of the trans athlete that first drew attention to Maine. (Libby has now moved on to fund-raising for Susan Collins's reelection campaign.) On the brighter side, one daughter teaches an outdoor education program in Vermont and she was telling me how chill and accepting the kids are of gender expression and exploration. Let's keep believing in a better future!!
