Equal? No, Sarah McBride is clearly far superior to those who are so hateful, bigoted and narrow minded.

For real where do these lowlife pols come from, she has gotta be MAGA? Nothing but white trash in an expensive dress. She can't buy or legislate herself class or decency.

interestingly, Mace was using correct pronouns earlier this week. but now, like MTG, has switched. idk why that detail bothers me so much, but fuck them.

They are terrified that Sarah MCcBride is going to succeed, showing the world that trans people are more than capable.

This attack is the closest so far with regards to what they really fear (Sarah McBride is everything they aren't - smart, thoughtful, caring, kind and she possesses an incredible amount of real strength and character).

We succeed in front of the world and all their hateful rhetoric collapses.

Absolutely. They don't want her to succeed at all. It would be a disaster for them if people actually found out that trans people were actually just normal people.

I know Sarah, and I have worked on the campaign trail with her. She is everything you just described. My hope is that the public will see her decency and contrast it with the frothing rage that the likes of Republicans like Mace and Greene demonstrate almost daily -- and then realize who is better trusted to govern.

I see other people on the Left claiming we lost the election because of trans people. That is not the case at all. Incumbent governments were thrown out of power all over the world over the huge amount of inflation that we ALL experienced, yet some people think it was all the made-up culture war bullshit that won the election.

Exactly. It's pure insanity, but I've never known liberals to take the correct lesson from anything. Then there are the leftists who smugly burned us all because they wanted to grandstand about Gaza - meanwhile there likely won't be a PALESTINE by the time 2028 rolls around now.

I cannot fathom the delusional idea that voting Trump or not voting to punish the Dems is an effective act on behalf of the Gazan people.

Trump will sell Israel every weapon it asks for, unlike the Biden administration.

Trump has already said he will order the Pentagon to share ELINT, SIGINT, other intel, and AWACS and satellite information.

He has also indicated he might order the USAF to conduct air raids with the IDF air brigades. He's also promised Netanyahu to increase military aid for Israel and stop humanitarian aid for Gaza.

All of this is a horrific departure from the restraints of the Biden administration.

Netanyahu will be able to keep his campaign pledge of ethnically cleansing all Christians and Muslims from Gaza and recreating it as an Israeli province ready for someone to fill its coasts with luxury beachfront hotels and casinos.

So enabling Trump only achieved one thing; removing the last restraints on American support for the genocidal war criminal Netanyahu leading the entire region INCLUDING the Israeli people to destruction.

Yes, Biden's withholding of military aid until Israel allowed sufficient humanitarian aid into Gaza saved many lives. Oh, wait. . .

Grandstand about Gaza? That's what you call being outraged at genocide? Some whiny Dems are trying to blame us and our supporters for Harris's loss. That's bullshit of course, but equally so is your whiny attempt to blame an even more despised minority and their supporters for our current plight. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I will not support Democrats that do not support our LGBTQ communities. One of the major differences between the two parties is support for Trans and queer folks. If a Dem pol like Colin Allred or Seth Moulton can't support us, what the hell difference is there between the two parties as far as my personal safety, civil rights, human rights, legal recognition, and citizenship?

Nope.

A Dem who can't support us 110% is just a Republican who can read and brush their teeth. I don't need 'em.

I feel that some Democrats are about as out of touch with their constituent as Republicans are. At this point, neither party represents me. Remember that silence = being complicit.

No.

You don't get to both-sides this, or anything else.

The Democratic Party is a normal political party - imperfect, transactional, compromising, sometimes cowardly, but still invested in the democratic process and effective government.

The Republican party is led by a full-on fascist, and nearly every elected Republican is either a full-throated supporter or too cowardly to resist.

Chaiya Mohanty Ortiz's avatar

I agree with that. I still feel the Democratic party is out of touch with it's constituents. So many folks that one would thing would have voted for Kamala switched sides. And also a lot of folks sat out this election all together. I think many people feel that the Dems seem to be interested in marginalized groups only during election periods and that the same people feel disenfranchised and left out of the process. Plus, there are actually some Dems who are blaming the overall defeat of the party on supporting trans folks. I completely flat out do not respect those politicians. Yes, of course Democrats are always better that Republicans. And democrats aren't living up to their word. Their constitutents often feel forgotten.

It’s never about sports, it’s never about safety, it’s always about oppression. The fact that they can only cite anecdotes instead of statistics proves that every single time. They are simply saying the quiet part out loud now. I for one, refuse to debate my humanity with my oppressors, my right to bodily autonomy and basic civil rights is not an abstract philosophical question!

They can't use facts because there are no facts to support anti-Trans policy. All they have are false narratives, logical fallacies, false equivalencies, hatred, scapegoating, lies, disinformation, Qanon conspiracy theory, cognitive dissonance and captive media confirmation bias, and a deeply disturbing psychosocial fascination with children's genitalia.

That's it.

That's all the GOPMAGAs got.

Reality and empiricism apparently both possess an inherent liberal bias!

They need to push her away because dehumanization was their strategy and it’s hard to maintain that angle when McBride is sitting at their table. The bathroom drama was bait and she was wise not to take it. It was a cheap attempt to get her on the other side of policy and paint her as an extremist who only cares about trans issues.

I'm disappointed by McBride's response, but I also see wisdom in it. What Mace is doing is motivated by hate, yes, but it's also bait. The Republicans *want* McBride to speak out on it, to challenge it. They want to see her distracted. I think it's intentional and calculated that Mace's comments are so hurtful and dismissive, because she hopes to goad McBride into responding in kind. They want her to give them opportunities to censure her. They want to make her transness into the defining aspect of her congressional term. They want, next election cycle, to circle back and say "Sarah McBride said she was going to fight for all Delawareans. Instead she spent her time fighting for her own right to use a bathroom." So while it pains me, I think her stance is probably correct on this.

Cisgender mom to a transgender son and chosen mom to many transgender folks. I hope that Nancy Mace realizes that Reagan and Dulles Airports are actually in Virginia and we passed laws here in 2020 that prohibit public places from policing public restrooms based on gender identity. Because, while Virginia is a southern state, we PROUDLY have the first ever openly transgender elected official in State Senator (then Assemblywoman) Danica Roem. With her and like minded colleagues, we worked our butts off to make Virginia a better place for LGBTQIA+ residents!! (Not perfect and we have had our challenges.)

I want to revive the "I'll go with you"/"You're safe with me" grassroots program. I was in DC with transgender folks in 2014 and 2017 during Trans Lobby Day. I can say for a fact trans women used the women's restrooms in Congress that day (I was with them) and nothing bad happened! I also know Sarah McBride personally and can firmly attest to the fact that she is not a safety threat to anyone. I'm hoping the policies she works on will be a threat to right wing members in Congress who want to play identity politics to pull marginalized communities down so that they can take advantage of us! Sarah is an amazing example of dignity and class. She is above this idiotic bickering about her body and ready to roll up her sleeves and get to work! Personally, I'm sorry she is going through this. I also know that she is tougher than bullies like Nancy Mace! Rock on Sarah! And congratulations on your win!
