Thank goodness. This is.

The sign that I and other michigan's have been waiting to see from Dana Nessel. I applaud her for taking a stand to protect the rights of our trans gender brothers and sisters.

It should have been michiganders. Freaking voice to text.

I put together a Reddit campaign earlier this month to contact the AG's for blue states to press them to encorce the protection laws.

For anyone who lives in a Blue State other than Michigan, please contact your AG. Look for your state in the post to find your AG's contact info and a template you can use to email them.

Excellent. Would that Newsom had done the same. :spits:

Newsom needs to fear the pack of pols is leaving him behind. Right now he's riding high as Mr Resistor -- but he'll turn, for better or worse, if others grab the initiative from him.

He still can/could . . . tho' given what he said on Kirk's podcast I won't hold my breath.

This discussion has prompted me to change my .sig block to:

"If we’ve learned anything in this war, it’s that you don’t defend your future by waiting for permission.

And you don’t survive empires by believing they’ll stop on their own." 🇺🇦

~Viktor Kravchuk

That's just as relevant to the struggle we're facing as Transgender folk!

Shayne's avatar

Yeah, not going to hold my breath waiting for Newsom to act on principle rather than just trying to chase polls. He is the definition of a coward that you cannot count upon.

Thankfully at least one AG will move to make sure that a states laws are upheld and force hospitals and health facilities to follow state law instead of bending the knee to this racist administration

We need all these hospitals, colleges, universities, and companies to stop bending the knee if they all did that these racists could not get away with what they are doing IT’s TIME TO STAND UP AND PUSH BACK !!!

RRMother's avatar

Agree!! There’s FAR more of us than there are of them and if we all stand up and resist, push back, protest, etc, they *will* fail in their efforts to burn this country to the ground.

Kassandra F.'s avatar

At least one Blue State AG has the courage to do their damned job and protect ALL of the citizens in their state.

I have many, MANY issues with our AG, but this was the right move, and reading her press release last night made me happy.

On the other side, she went above and beyond to charge seven of the pro-Palestinian protestors from our (U-M's) campus with felonies and misdemeanors simply for protesting. She ended up dropping them after we counter-protested and fought like hell: https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2025/05/05/michigan-attorney-general-dana-nessel-drops-all-charges-university-michigan-diag-protesters/83452242007/. I work for the university, and I'm a member of our staff union. U-M has been dismantling everything good about it in favor of acquiescing to Trump's threats/demands. (If you haven't read about our late president's destruction of our DEI program, so he could hope to win the presidency at the University of Florida, which he didn't, I recommend doing so.)

We need more of this from other blue states. What will work best is specific consequences if hospitals violate state law.

Good on you, AG Nessel! I’m wondering why Letitia James in New York isn’t doing the same; she probably has her hands full at the moment…

R131313's avatar

I wish that Connecticut's govenor had done this when both Yale and Hartford Health Care hospitals bent the knee to this regime.

I think it may be time to find a new candidate for govenor.

Why don't like-minded State AGs pool their resources and challenge it in court?

MissNumbersNinja's avatar

They are. New York Et. Al v. Trump has been joined by 13 state AGs. But, like Erin said, Trump has a lot of levers to pull, changing the tactics slightly and then claim he's not violating court ruling becuase he's not doing that exact thing.

We need the back stop of AGs enforcing their state laws to negate that.

Yes! This! 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴!

The fed may have more reach, when it swings its gavel... but the state doesn't need to reach as far, and a coward always reacts more strongly the nearer the threat is to their nose. Those who would capitulate to fascists are, by definition, cowards. They've already admitted that scare tactics work on them; treat them accordingly. If they're afraid of what Trump and his goons 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 do to them if they defy him, then it is entirely appropriate to make them terrified of what state authorities 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 do to them if they obey him. Whenever the federal-level fascists say "𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘺 𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦," we need Democrats at the state level to say "𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘦."

Does anyone know the situation here in MA? If hospitals have ended care, I will write to our AG to suggest following Nessel's lead.

Jennifer Schepis's avatar

As far as I know no programs have ended in MA. I know youth at most of them and everyone is receiving the care they require.

Rich white liberal supports liberals while also supporting genocide of non whites. What are the chances?

MakeTheWorldSafeForDiversity's avatar

Your country is fascist with the so-called "left" supporting a genocide yet I'm a troll. Like there's any rule of law or constitution left to defend.

Talia Perkins's avatar

Why yes, you are a trolling crank spamming your own obsessions.

MakeTheWorldSafeForDiversity's avatar

I'm sure the police and military will protect your rights and "constitution."

MakeTheWorldSafeForDiversity's avatar

Your American "constitution" was 250 years out of date when it was written.

Talia Perkins's avatar

I don't see where that document is brought up.

MakeTheWorldSafeForDiversity's avatar

If the president can order anything he wants, you don't have a constitution. All you have is violence and threats to the civilian populace.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre the falcon cannot hear the falconer;

Things fall apart;

the centre cannot hold;

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed,

and everywhere the ceremony of innocence is drowned;

The best lack all conviction,

while the worst are full of passionate intensity.

This is one of the most important article for trans rights supporters that I have read in a longtime. Why didn’t this happen in California? Us CA residents need to step up the pressure on our elected officials to put massive pressure on Newsom to reverse course on his cowardly attacks on trans kids. I think if we make it about that - he’s attacking trans kids - we might have a chance despite his craven desire to throw his own coalition under the bus for political power.
