The D&D / MTG Community has been inclusive of us since the beginning. I remember growing up as a kid in the 80’s, using female characters in D&D to express myself when I had no other outlet.

And I thank them!

I recall the RPG community was a target of the Social Conservatives before, remember "Mazes and Monsters" ? It was about that moral panic then.

Yes, and Magic was the target of its own Satanic panic in the '90's in the early years of its history. I remember it was singled out and banned at my Bible Belt high school in 1996. And like "Mazes and Monsters", Christian-specific trading card games have come and gone over the years. Look up "Redemption" (which went so far as to plagiarize Magic mechanics) and "Animo" as examples and for a laugh.

Thank you for sharing - love this so much!! Both of my kiddos are obsessed with Magic and my 19 year old NB kid has found a great community at college playing MTG. Donation is sent!

I love the TCC channel. Excellent hosts hilighting the best of the game, and it's creators. There's a so many trans folks who play magic, and it's so beautiful to see unabashed support from them.

OMG. This is amazing! Thanks for sharing,

At first I was confused because whenever I see the acronym MTG I think of Marjorie Taylor Greene. Good to now those initials can stand for something positive.

Whenever I see 'MTG' used to refer to her, my brain wants expand it into a Magic-referring disparaging nickname for her, such as Margie the Gibbering :-).

There are also several speed-running marathons that raise tons of money for this and other important organizations. It is always great to see people coming together to put on events that touch so many people and raise so much money.

Fantastic essay. Thanks, Erin & Co.

Please let me know Friends if I need to make changes to the following post. CoPilot AI and I will make mistakes. Thanks.

I created the following presentation with assistance by CoPilot AI to post on my Facebook feed:

Personal Intro:

I’m sharing this because our trans community deserves safety, dignity, and support — and sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is make sure people know where help is. I’m not transgender myself, but as a queer person living on a fixed income through ODSP [Ontario Disability Support Program], I try to show up in the ways I *can*. Signal‑boosting matters.

I may not have the financial means to give as much as I’d like, but I still want to show up for my trans family and friends in the ways I can. Sharing resources, boosting visibility, and making sure people know where help exists is something I can do — and something that matters. If this information reaches even one person who needs it, then it’s worth sharing.

🌈 **Supporting Our Trans Community: A Quick Info Share**

Sometimes sharing means boosting visibility, and making sure people know help exists.

Hey, FB Family & FB Visitors:

You’re doing something meaningful, — and it’s worth saying out loud. Financial support is only one form of care, and it’s not the only one that matters. What you’re doing here — using your voice, your platform, and your compassion — is real support. Community work has always been built on people who show up in the ways they can, not in the ways they wish they could.

One organization doing life‑saving work is **Trans Lifeline**.

🌈 **Supporting Our Trans Community: A Quick Info Share**

**What Trans Lifeline Is**

Trans Lifeline is a peer‑run crisis and support hotline created *by trans people, for trans people*. When someone calls, they’re speaking to another trans person who understands the lived experience behind the struggle — not just the theory.

**What They Offer**

- Confidential, identity‑affirming peer support

- Crisis help without involving police or emergency services unless the caller asks

- Microgrants for name changes, ID updates, and other transition‑related needs

- A community‑centered approach rooted in dignity and autonomy

**Why It Matters**

Trans people face unique pressures and risks, and having a place to call where you’re understood — truly understood — can make all the difference. Fundraisers like Tolarian Community College’s annual event help keep this service running, and last year they raised nearly half a million dollars for the cause.

**Hotline Numbers**

**United States:** (877) 565‑8860

**Canada:** (877) 330‑6366

*Available Monday through Friday.*

**How You Can Help (Even If Money Is Tight)**

- Share these numbers

- Boost fundraisers when you see them

- Talk openly about trans support and safety

- Be a steady, compassionate presence in your own circles

Small actions matter. Community care shouldn't always be measured in dollars — it’s measured in showing up.

Thank you FB Family & FB Visitors.

❤ Love, Rob Nelson

I've never been into MtG myself, and didn't know much about its community, but that is wonderful news! So many gaming spaces and media fandoms have been infiltrated and captured by right-wing shitheels in recent years; it's a great relief to see a gaming community rally behind us instead of turning its back on us.

What heart-warming news! MTG is such a great community - it was my daughter's 'lifeline' during her difficult times.
