Good! This is the pushback we need. We also need the feds to pull funding and need corps to pull events. Like in 2016. This is the ONLY way fascists and their sympathizers understand. Loss of money.

I'd like to thank my co-conspirators in FCPS Pride for their efforts here. We are rallying this evening, it was to get support, and now it is to celebrate that support.

Nice work! Do yall want non-FCPS folks to contact the superintendent with gratitude, or would that be annoying/overwhelming?

Yes, don't overwhelm her, she is running the biggest school district in VA and it opens next week. She wants to do the right thing, but knows the political environment, and doesn't always know what to do. We had a successful rally, felt very positive. Now to keep working.

I'm very happy to see my school district push back on these horrifically discriminatory and harmful policies. From my understanding, it is, legally, up to each school board as to whether or not to implement them, and even then, they can choose to implement them in part or whole. It's wonderful to see FCPS standing up for our kiddos and truly protecting them.

With that said, if "protecting students" was really the concern, the policies never would have been put forth for consideration. There is no bear in the woods...

How about the focus turns to what really harms our kids?

Excellent news! Forced bullying of children should not be allowed in public schools.

Or any school for that matter.

Religious schools use a different kind of bullying, a type that some wish to recreate in public schools.

The politics of hate looks worse and worse under a spotlight. Thanks so much for being our spotlight, Erin.

This is good news. Not unexpected, of course, but Fairfax County is the most critical jurisdiction in challenging Youngkin's phony ass. They have the presence and means to bring attention to the governor's hypocrisy.

Refreshing to see adults being present in the room for once! Good for FCPS for showing common sense in protecting ALL students ❤️

Very glad to see my kiddo’s school system confirming their support of their rights. This tracks with most of the experiences we’ve had in FCPS; we consider ourselves quite fortunate.

Good for FCPS. Let’s hope that Loudoun County will follow in Fairfax’s footsteps. We usually do. This policy is so wrong in so many ways.

I live 1/4 of a mile from Loudoun. I will try and help. Loudoun is scarier than Fairfax due to those noisy parents (I spoke at the school board meeting that blew up badly).

Hooray for Fairfax! This is the county whose public library system I work for. So it's good to know folks here are standing up for trans folks in the schools, and I hope they will also stand firm if the book banners come our way.

Good job FCPS! That’s the school system I grew up in. The 90’s were a whole different time and I see that FCPS has grown and changed in a good way.

Shocking to see that Fairfax County is standing up to Gov. “DeSantis light”. Fairfax has known and rampant corruption in its courts and is usually in favor of fascism. Well done, can it also be noted that Governor Youngkin and his white washing campaign on k-12 curriculums gave even ultra conservatives an “are you kidding me” face with the extreme changes to public education that do hurt children by depriving them of an education, which the US needs well educated citizens to keep progress moving forward

Not long ago while talking about Ron DeSandFlea, I wrote that the reason bullies get away with things is that too few people just say "Screw you." The Fairfax County Public Schools' open defiance of the bigoted "model policies" is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about. Right on Fairfax County Schools!

Interesting sidebar: That school system also produces high-quality educational programming for use by public access TV stations.

This is awesome! Missoula County Public Schools meets tomorrow night to discuss how or whether they will comply with the new Montana laws. I tried to DM you on X but I was blocked from doing so 😂 anyway, I'm speaking at the board meeting tomorrow night. I'll let you know how it goes.
