My favorite part, by far, is the rebuking of Cass. It gives me hope to know that someone, somewhere in government, acknowledges how fucking broken and miscontextualized everything in that report truly is.

The number of lazy journos who relied on that dumbass report to justify their own bias...Park it on Pamela Paul's office door.

It's super nice the judge bothered to read the Cass report and notice not only the flaws of it, but even with its flaws it doesn't even recommend a complete ban of care.

Thank you for a thoughtful and cogent post on the legal issues. For once the good side has come out on top.

This also gives me hope that if Trump decides to criminalize even talking about trans people, as instructed in Project 2025, that it will be defeated in court.

Yeah, that would be a blatant 1st amendment violation and constitutionally indefensible. So if something like that ever passes, it means we are living in a completely different political reality.

It is about time an ethical judge applies the Fourteenth Amendment and takes into consideration evidence-based medicine without the influence of religious extremists and ambitious politicians who love to use pejoratives to dehumanize trans youth. Trans rights are human rights.

I never in my life believed the United States would become a cesspool of anti-trans hatred. Let’s build solidarity around the trans community and let families, doctors, and trans-children make their own medical decisions.

Could you repeat after me: I Stand with Trans Youth?

Love leads!! I love that from PFLAG. Love will lead. So glad the judge affirmed the problems with the Cass Review.

Thank-fucking-god! The executive order was crap, and this judge spelled out exactly how it was crap. No authority, no evidence, and even the evidence they did have didn't support their claim. We need to see some serious apologies from those OVER-complicit hospitals....

Since trump (yes LC is intentional) claims to be such a "Winner," is anyone keeping a running total of his Win/Loss record on his Executive Orders which have been appealed? I would also love to see some numbers on how much this is costing the taxpayers, as the "stated" driving force of the Administration is to cut the costs of the Federal Government.

This is certainly great news and a big relief. I'm glad the decision specifically pointed out how that Cass review is garbage. I have to ask though, what happens now? Is the Trump regime going to appeal this?

Also, something that is worrying me is that right now the only hope of the legal front is the courts. We've got nearly four more years of this shitshow to go, which means more judicial appointments. You can bet they're going to make a lot bigger effort to fill those seats with bigots - of the conservative Christian variety when possible - then they did the last time they held power. They're a lot better organized and have spent a long time plotting how to enact their bigoted agenda, and you can bet that's a part of it. And we certainly can't rely on the Supreme Court.

This is good news of course, and thank you for the excellent reporting. Supposedly there was also a federal court ruling a few days ago out west that blocked part of the sex definition EO? But I haven’t seen any additional reporting on that. Can anyone confirm or deny that? If true, it would be hugely important because with some luck, it might mean that it would be possible for trans people to get accurate passports again.
