wow! thank you Jefco school administration for standing up and defending trans kids. more than just defending trans students, you’re teaching them that they deserve to be protected and cherished. 😭
Jefferson County Public Schools in Colorado deserve recognition for standing firm in support of all students — including transgender youth — during a moment of intense national political pressure.
Jeffco’s policies are rooted in a simple principle: every student deserves dignity, safety, and equal access to education.
By allowing transgender students to participate in school life consistent with their gender identity, the district has chosen inclusion over fear and compassion over exclusion.
Federal officials have demanded the district reverse these protections, claiming they violate Title IX, but Jeffco leaders have pushed back, arguing that such demands conflict with Colorado law and undermine protections already established for transgender students.
Schools are meant to be places where young people can learn without harassment or discrimination.
Transgender students are not political talking points — they are children navigating school, friendships, and their futures like everyone else.
Policies that recognize their identities help create safer learning environments and reduce isolation and harm.
Jeffco’s stance reflects the responsibility of educators to protect all students, not just the majority or the most politically convenient.
Standing up for inclusion in the face of federal pressure is not defiance for its own sake — it is a commitment to fairness, local law, and the well-being of students entrusted to their care.
At a time when debates about gender identity are increasingly polarized, Jeffco Public Schools have chosen to lead with respect, evidence, and humanity.
Supporting transgender students is not a controversy — it is an affirmation that public education must serve everyone.
We need more and more schools to stand up support and protect all our children
The entire notion that Title IX demands discrimination against trans kids is further proof that this regime chooses to weaponize the law specifically against one single marginalized community. It is the VERY DEFINITION of discrimination, which Title IX was specifically designed to ELIMINATE. And yet with this hostile Supreme Court consisting of six theocrats in black robes backing up this hostile regime in their War on Trans People, we are not guaranteed a victory should this ever end up on their docket.
These are certainly dark days for the entire trans community and we will take whatever small victories come our way.
I can only hope that Academy School District 20 in Colorado Springs wakes up. Now that they have hired a new christian nationalist nazi for a lawyer and he wants to use us as a Supreme Court case to shove his specific “religion” down everyone’s throat…
At least the disgusting board of (no)education pulled out of a trans athlete lawsuit. In any case, he’s going to bleed the district of it’s very limited funds filing his own unwinable and frivolous lawsuits.
As a Colorado resident, I'm proud of the Jefferson County school district. Outright bans, on ANYTHING, are a lazy, weak minded solution. If there really IS a problem, then write legislation (or policies) that adequately addresses the problem and its perpetrators. Don't just create a huge legal net that captures everything and everyone. I doubt that ANYONE can point to a burly guy who walked into the ladies room with anything other than bad intentions. Such action is called ASSAULT and needs to be prosecuted as such. The Trump claims of "boys in girls' spaces" has no evidence of occurrence. Trans kids and adults use restrooms for the very same reasons as cis folks. No trans athlete has ever dominated a sport. The Christian Nationalists have made this a holy war, in that evidence counter to the dogma must be completely ignored in order to perpetuate the narrative. Logic and evidence have no place in their world. History is replete with instances of this same deranged philosophy. All of us in this community are far too familiar with those instances for me to have to repeat them here. Once again, thank you Jefferson County.
YES!!!!!
