They all talk about common-sense. Yet, none of them seem to listen to it. Common-sense would lead them to do more research on this topic rather than pick up easily packaged slogans of hatred. Instead, they are taking a shortcut, confusing their laziness and hatred for common-sense. And this will come with a heavy price that will cost them their election and most importantly the trust of the people.
Increasingly, when I hear people invoke common sense, I hear them invoking the peak of Mt. Stupid: Unwilling to learn more about the details and complexities of an issue, they are so satisfied with their position that they see any new information or data as so incompatible with their reality that they would rather reject it outright.

MAGA has redefined common sense. It is frightening though that Democrats are taking up the mantle of “common sense” as a way to justify a choice to turn their backs on us. Trump has truly succeeded in shifting the Overton Window.
This is the sort of thing that people who write about authoritarian governments and the development of concentration camps warn about—and are currently warning about. Maybe they’ve been warning for so long that people aren’t hearing it, but I think it’s more that people are too invested in their own virtue that they are unable to see what they’re participating in (or ignoring.) Dems are really good at that.
They really have, and this is, in my opinion, a greater threat than almost anything else about the Trump administration. We have fallen so far since 2024 already. If we emerge in 2029 with a Democratic president and congress, what will it matter if the border is to remain sealed, trans rights are to remain off the table, and DEI/affirmative action dead and buried? So we'll have more competent managers of the decline of our empire? Cool.

Just another example of how even the Dems are unreliable allies. They act like transgender girls and women in high school and collegiate sports is common. Even Charlie Baker the NCAA president in 2024 testified under oath in congress that out of 500,000+ NCAA student athletes, there were less than 10 who are transgender. How do these people think this is a sustainable winning strategy? The reason you don't here anything about transgender men in sports is because the real intention of the right is to totally get rid of women's sports period so they can institute their "trad wife" agenda.
I have no doubt this is the agenda. That means getting rid of all the progress I've seen in my lifetime, as slow and halting as it has been. Want to know what no girls'/women's sports looks like? In 1970, when I graduated from high school, there was one girl who was involved in any sort of sport. One. She was a tennis player. She learned to play tennis because her older brother had played. She was the first girl in my district in the San Francisco Bay Area to get an athletic scholarship to college. The only other sport-adjacent activity available to girls at the time was cheereleading, and that exclusively involved girls who were dancers. I don't give a rap about sports, but I think that such activities for girls and women should not only be available to all girls and women, but should get the same financial, scholarship, etc levels of support that boys' and men's do. So long as this society segregates sport by gender (which I think is a silly way to go about it), that's only fair. They want to go back to 1970--if not, before. Back to the times when girls were told you shouldn't run or swim or whatever, because otherwise it'd make your uterus fall out. Seriously. That's what the 5-minute film we saw in "sex-ed" said. Trans or otherwise queer people didn't exist, which is also what they want.
Contrast this to James Talarico — a Democrat who fills stadiums to overflowing across Texas — consistently highlighting the ugliness, misguided political calculation, and just plain stupidity of demonizing trans people.
I am always at loss when it comes to a candidate that is lacking common sense. Do I spend time or energy to email or call? Or do I contact other Democrats in his district to confront him. I like to take action but wonder if it is time well spent with this candidate.
Well, I just penned off a few fucking livid emails, including especially to the DNC, asking why I should continue being a loyal Democrat and why I should join a GOTV phone banking effort for Democrats Abroad. After the decades of sacrifice I've made to this party, I told them I DEMAND an answer - that at this point, I am OWED it.
I'm serious: News of this little shit weasel really hit me pretty hard this morning. It's a lot to unpack. Perhaps the most difficult thing is the realization that this is Third Way official policy. FUCK THEM! The DNC should not give their name or endorsement to candidates who cannot support the most basic of Constitutional rights for all Americans, regardless of who they are.

Democratic candidates running for office in Iowa seem to have received the same memo: “Whatever you do, make sure everyone knows you’re against boys playing girls’ sports.” Apparently, independent thinking has been suspended until further notice.
Iowa has already piled up anti-trans legislation, and now Democrats seem determined to prove they can repeat Republican talking points with a straight face. Why bother having evidence, nuance, or an actual policy platform when you can just recycle the same fear-based rhetoric?

Here’s a radical idea: Democrats could actually stand for something. They could defend civil rights, listen to scientists and medical experts, and refuse to demonize an already vulnerable minority just because Republicans discovered that fear makes a great campaign slogan.
