Albert D. J. Cashier (December 25, 1843 – October 10, 1915), born Jennie Irene Hodgers, was an Irish-born American soldier who served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

Cashier adopted the identity of a man before enlisting, and maintained it until death. Cashier became famous as one of at least 250 soldiers who were assigned female at birth and enlisted as men to fight in the Civil War.

The consistent and nearly lifelong (at least 53 years) commitment to a male identity has prompted some historians to believe that Cashier was a trans man.

Albert was one of the approx, 250 others like him to serve in the Civil War.

This information is available online at several locations.

Remember: They can try to erase the label “trans”, but they can never erase the people who have always been here, and always will.

I side with Obama on this. He encouraged all universities to give up funding rather than comply. The exact same thing applies here; values before funding. Trump isn't forever, what we believe, stand for, and the history that has brought us to this point, which includes valuable contributions from the Trans Community, outweigh staying open for the short term and giving in to fascism and eugenics.

Has the museum said if they’re going to comply?

Unfortunately the Smithsonian is owned by the Federal Government. Those who run it have little choice: comply, or get fired.

Per Google's AI: "The Smithsonian receives funding from both the federal government and private donations, endowments, and other sources."

This country is becoming more dystopian day by day.

I don't know that it's "owned" by the federal government. It gets 2/3 of its funding and staffing from the federal government. I honestly think they could let all of that go, shutter all the museums, and retain the remaining 1/3 of funding and staffing to maintain the facilities until they can re-open. The dump administration is demanding that one of the world's largest and most important system of museums corrupt history and become a propaganda organ of the federal government. It should be their DUTY not to do this, no matter the cost.

I couldn't agree more! And if they did do their duty, it would make my day to see the First Felon go all Vesuvian! Doing duty is all too often not a common thing in government leadership these days. That's a cue for the rest of us to do OUR duty -- now, and in the mid-term elections in 2026.

“Museums in our Nation’s capital should be places where individuals go to learn,” the order says, “not to be subjected to ideological indoctrination or divisive narratives that distort our shared history.”

And what the fuck do YOU think you are doing? Please stop calling it shared history, it's fascist history being rewritten by the worst human beings (I'm being generous here) to have ever wielded power since the birth of this nation.

This president is nothing more than a human shaped pile of shame...

Finally someone has the balls to create an anti woke museum. I actually received a list of new exhibits. I am so jazzed to share with everyone:

Operation Barbarossa(What could have been)

Segregation(When America was great)

Women wearing skirts/dresses

History of Hamms beer( they have never heard of Dylan Mulvaney)

Spring Break in Alaska (A look at climate change benefits)

Cooties(how men don’t really have them)

Feminist oppression of men(dark history of women’s liberation)

Heterosexual recreation

Museum staff should, right now, be furiously backing up everything they can, while they can, and getting those backups offsite for preservation. Any artifacts which can be made to disappear into safer hands, to prevent their destruction (because that is surely coming next), should "fall off a truck" while on the way to whichever warehouse they're to be memory-holed in.

Chump and his bastard brigade can likely force the Smithsonian to remove any exhibit that displeases him, and force them to replace it with whatever lies suit his fancy... but he can only actually 𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘦 history with the full cooperation of the staff. If they dedicate themselves to preserving it in spite of him, then everything that will be lost to his historical butchery can be restored when he's finally gone.

The Smithsonian Institution SHOULD NOT cooperate. They may lose federal funding, but surely a population of 5 million Americans can cough up enough private support to make them whole.

I just wrote to the Smithsonian to urge them not to give in to dump's demands. I hope you will too:
