A small handful of hospitals nationwide have put fear of President Trump over the needs of their transgender patients, and are withdrawing trans youth from care due to a recent executive order.
Thank you. I’ll try to keep an eye on the hospitals/medical groups around chicago where I live and try to remember to post it here in a reply if any of them do the same.
Its possible that ostensible compliance might conceal gender affirming care. We've seen this with the abortion bans. Even if there's support and information, that's still something. Or an underground railway of sorts to access care in a state still providing care.
True, but I'd expect that more out of organizations who put up a fight first. These organizations were so quick to do it, it smells more like obeying in advance to me or they saw it as an offramp from controversial issue that they really didn't want to be involved in anymore.
My child was receiving care from UVA. We have received no communication from them about how to move forward. I'm determined to get her the care she needs with or without them, but I am furious that there seems to have been no attempt at communication with patients who are being forcibly detransitioned.
Ms. Lazine's final sentence says it all: "those in positions of influence must decide whether they will stand in opposition to tyranny or enable it through silence and compliance." We have reached a significant milestone in this unrelenting assault on the community. The silence of people with influence HAS to be viewed as tacit approval. Personally, I am appalled that my own University of Colorado has chosen to delete ALL gender care for minors. I could have respected some form of increased documentation and the consideration of a reduced level of care as a way to test the waters. But total capitulation with no apparent threat can only be called cowardice.
These health care systems have had months to prepare their litigation and operational strategies. The fact that they have neither sought court intervention nor announced plans to spin off their gender care programs shows a reckless disregard for continuity of care. It is not only shameful, it is potentially actionable under applicable law.
I’m happy to report I got confirmation from Seattle Children’s will continue care for those considering where to flee to and retain access stateside. There’s a very strong community up here ready to look after our kids and fold them into their loving arms.
there is no mention here about what these programs at these hospitals will be doing for continuity of care for these youth. Canceling treatment and procedures will be like making empty promises and showing support for these patients and then yanking it. But no mention of the harm and danger this can do to patients to end their care suddenly?? Hormone treatment yanked with no plan?the Endo team at these hospitals should be asked to make statements about the risk of care suddenly stopped. I think the Endocrine Society should make a statement to families about the danger /risks and about what parents can do to safeguard the kids from the dangers of stopping care. And I think this needs to be mentioned. This idea puts panic in these kids and their families. Is it safe? Let's see how they explain that. It can take months or more to get a new doctor with gender affirming care experience. It can take months to get any new doctor.
When not doing my part as a published author, I work in a children's hospital in Kansas. We used to have a strong LGBTQIA+ community here until "Dumb Ass the Great" came back into power. I am Transgender, and I work as an armed officer, doing my best to help protect the lives of children. It breaks my heart when I see the desperation and loss in the eyes of those trying to seek transgender care. They look to me for hope and guidance, and like a blind shepherd trying to keep her flock together, all I can do is softly smile, offer a kind hug, and a silent whisper that "Things change." How can one deal with the cruelty of our evil bastard President? I came out in 2020, before the COVID-19 outbreak, and I did that because, frankly, I needed to for sanity's sake, and... I thought that evil man was gone for good. Things do change, but do we dare risk the life of one child just for the redundancy of... politics?!? "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" is what the document says to the world. Pumpkinhead NEEDS to read it!
I don't envy the position you're in, but thank you for being a beacon of hope for them. I wish I had some kind of profound wisdom you could pass on to the kiddos. I truly hope it changes for the better soon for them and all of us.
protest! we threw together a protest in 2.5 days, and had over 200 attend -- families, youth, adults ✊️ stay safe with marshals, deescalators, street medics, but BE LOUD 🗣📢🗣📢🗣📢
It seems like I am writing nearly daily to my federal rep and senators on various topics regarding Trmp's activities, and now am adding my state senator and reps. That is where health care in my state can be best protected, I think, especially in the state's University of Washington affiliated hospitals and clinics. I know at least one Dr worried about the UW affiliated children's hospital reducing or ending trans care for youth.
My family receives support services from the gender and autism clinic at Children’s National. I think it’s important to make a distinction between the hospital’s clinicians, who are stalwart in their support of trans and gender queer kids and their families, and the hospital’s leadership. I am sure the clinicians who have until now been providing gender-affirming care are as distressed and angry about this situation as the author and commenters on this blog post. As a non-profit and university-affiliated hospital, CNH is dependent on government grants for research, Medicaid reimbursement, and the like. A further complication is that while CNH has facilities in MD and VA, its main hospital is in DC. DC doesn’t have statehood and can’t make its own laws, and is therefore more directly subject to federal oversight and interference.
Please list all hospitals out 🙂 I’ll take note when I’m talking to people
Here are three I'm aware of.
Denver Health Hospital,

Children’s National Hospital (Washington D.C)

I was being optimistic, maybe too much so. I was an RN, but not in the US so I don't know the system.
Thanks for adding your voice to the discussion! It's good to consider all these possibilities.
Sounds good, and I also just put together a better list, sorted by state in this Reddit post here -

As people post comments with other or I become aware of them elsewhere I'll edit this post and add the names.
I got this email address from a representative at NYU Langone patientrelations@nyulangone.org
Please?
Thank you!
Thank you! This is exactly the kind of action we need. Please, hit them where it hurts the most, in their wallet.
Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, WI
Just to confirm, are you saying that Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, WI has stopped providing GAC?
My child was receiving care from UVA. We have received no communication from them about how to move forward. I'm determined to get her the care she needs with or without them, but I am furious that there seems to have been no attempt at communication with patients who are being forcibly detransitioned.

Absolutely shameful.
This article did not report on plans to continue any kind of care...
Republicans want to erase trans lives. Democrats profess support for trans people until they need a political bargaining chip.
I’m happy to report I got confirmation from Seattle Children’s will continue care for those considering where to flee to and retain access stateside. There’s a very strong community up here ready to look after our kids and fold them into their loving arms.
Thank you, as always. Are there any hospitals/providers that have reaffirmed their commitment to providing care in face of the EO?
There’s a protest tomorrow eve for NYU https://www.instagram.com/p/DFlTXeeSRTH/?igsh=MW11MmY3MGFocng3aQ==

I fear this will have tragic consequences.
It already has caused trauma.

He needs to have those words stapled to his forehead.
Fucking NYU Langone, that’s so disappointing
Really interested to talk about how to pressure them to reconsider this preemptive compliance

Went to a protest at NYU yesterday - hundreds in attendance! They shared this link to send an email to NYU leadership:

Yep. That’s where I had my FFS. Such bullshit.
Thank you for your journalism. Here's hoping pressure gets these clinics to rethink their strategy.
As of Friday, Seattle Children's Hospital IS continuing gender affirming care for <19 yrs. They are also continuing their DEI programs.
As of today, that is no longer true 🤬😭🤬😭🤬😭🤬😭🤬
