Such an idiot move on his end. We have to keep following him and making sure that if he goes further down this path, he will have no friends in the LGBTQ community come election season or any time.
gavin newsome can go to hell. For someone who was the mayor of San Franciso, who at one point authorized same-sex marriage licenses in defiance of the law, he has become nothing but a contemptible coward. Lets all work to make sure that the political ambitions of him and other cowards like him end up in the trash.
This is disturbing indeed. I was just elected as a Democratic District Delegate for district in the Central Valley. I will, hopefully, be working with the LGBTQ Caucus to make sure that California continues to be a leader in transgender rights. I can tell you that on the local level, many Democratic organizations, including the Stonewall Democrats, are furious with Newsom. He continues to align with this growing movement amongst some Democrats to continue shifting to right of center policies. And now we are hearing that he is going to host Bannon on his next podcast? This is a huge mistake on his part. It's a huge mistake for any Democrats to look for common ground with these fascists. It's not a winning strategy, it shows no leadership, no vision, no care for the citizens of this country. It just reeks of naked political opportunism.
Right? I lived in San Francisco when Newsom was elected. We knew back then that he was shady. I think he has supported gay/trans rights because it was politically popular to do so in california, but I don't think he ever cared one way or the other. I'm sure he's got more than a few skeletons in his closet that are being exploited at this point.
I will not support a politician that does not support transgender rights. And if neither Republicans nor Democrats support transgender rights in 2026 and 2028, I will be voting for third-party candidates in those races. I hope that the Democratic Party leadership understands this, but there is a lot to suggest that they do not.
As a Californian I get more and more alarmed every day. This chud has built his entire image on his support for 2SLGBTQAIP+ rights, and now he's just gleefully throwing it to the wind. For what? 5 extra votes? He was once a politician the queer community in California saw as not as bad as others, ya know? Like we could breathe a bit because he seemed like he wouldn't jail us all. Haha, weren't we sadly wrong about that?
That's why I wonder what else is going on. Naked ambition, sure. But threats to damage the entire state through water policy? Maybe? Reporters need to keep digging. It just doesn't add up.
It's illuminating to see how our supposed allies are reacting to the ongoing onslaught against us. Allies by convenience, not philosophy it would appear. How quickly they turn on us when it's politically expedient. Again, the historical parallels are depressingly obvious.
Its so soul crushing to see people I thought would stand up for us just belly rolling to trump. They are paving the way for our attempted extermination
It seems a letter writing campaign to Newsom from Democrats letting him know that they will NOT vote for a president that doesn't fully back every letter of the LGBTQIA2S+ community might help him to understand his situation.
Left another scathing voicemail with his office, for whatever that's worth. I have to hold out hope that our state legislators and the AG can do enough to shield us in CA, but it's terrifying that it is coming to this.
Go after Alex Padilla also. He has been reliable with the exception of the NDAA (trans healthcare in the defense bill). That could have been a bit of political gamesmanship which we should let him know is not helpful. - in no uncertain terms.
By the way, at a convocation of Boettcher Scholars a week ago (a Colorado-centric institution whose alumnae gatherings are a small bit of brilliant sunlight in these dark times), one recent graduate who works in a Congressional office said that they're required to at least read and answer emails (or online equivalents), while voicemails can be deleted without further record. I don't know how general this is; maybe it was just her boss. But FWIW.
That isn't a conclusion that can be drawn from the facts. I've mentioned Rob Bonta before; still as strong as ever. National figures like Katie Porter and Adam Schiff have not changed tunes.
California has always had a deep red rural interior alongside Nixon country (Orange County). More progressive Democrats (Porter being a noteworthy example) have won in those regions than conservatives in the blue areas. Of course we can never stop fighting.
The LGBTQ community (or even just the trans community going it alone) needs a nuclear deterrent - a PAC whose funds are used to nuke any Democrats who turn on us by propping up primary challengers. That way we can have a threat to hold over the heads of all Democrats: Turm on us at your own peril, because we'll add you to the list if you do.
I just can't fathom how any Democratic candidate would hope to win an election without the support of LGBTQ people. I suppose he is gambling that gay and lesbian people will throw us under the bus too, but I think (I certainly HOPE) he is mistaken on that. I know there is a good bit of anti-trans animus among wealthy gay men in San Francisco, but I think that's a vestige of last-century politics. I don't think it applies very far outside of that bubble.
Can mainstream media and dems please stop pretending this is only about trans athletes?? That provides a sanewashed veneer over his bigotry.

Such a quick about face always makes me wonder what dirt they have on these people.

The "dirt" is ambition, before which principle often fails.
Bannon? WTF? Was Mace booked? 🤦🏻♀️ 🤦🏻♀️ 🤦🏻♀️
Thank you
He wants to run for President. I hope this shit-cans his career.

I can't with this guy! What a betrayal! I keep saying he was nowhere without the LGBTQ+ community and he will be nowhere again!

Yep I've been up in his inbox too

The amount of cowardice is astonishing
Sounds like California isn’t the safe haven everyone used to think. Unless a future governor implements a much more strongly LGBTQ-supportive stance.

That's a great idea. I wonder if trans billionaire Jennifer Prizker would fund something like that.
We have a billionaire?! It would certainly be worth asking. And hey, I'm not a billionaire by any stretch, but I would chip in as well.
We sure do!

Like you I would also donate to a fund like that. We could accomplish a lot just through crowdfunding.
