The Florida Department of Health announced a recommendation against the use of COVID vaccines, citing a lack of randomized controlled trials, a similar argument it used to attack trans care.
Well, I'm Dominican and Turkish and many people overseas want Russia and Ukraine to have peace talks so we can stop this Cold War in its tracts and prevent nuclear warfare between USA and Russia, but that's not happening any time soon.
The Russian Federation should accept that Ukraine is now apart of NATO, even though them joining was their reasoning behind the invasion. The expansion of NATO is something that many people around the world do not want, but the governments in Eastern Europe want it regardless.
Sadly, as someone that is Dominican, I'm more worried about anti-Haitian racism in the United States and in the Dominican Republic. Anti-Haitian racism is no joke and Springfield, Ohio, has a Nazi problem, a neo-Nazi problem, and one that is targeting Haitian immigrants.
Haitians rebuild Springfield, Ohio, and rebuild their industry and give new life to the area.
Meanwhile, anti-Black or anti-Haitian racism haunts the Dominican Republic, even though most of the population is Black or practically Black.
Racism is a great evil, and we see it in the Ukraine War and in Gaza, but especially close to home...
Just a point of contention, Russia didn't invade because of NATO or NATO expansion, Russia invaded because it is a colonialist imperial power. NATO was unwilling to have Ukraine join (and it still hasn't joined) because they didn't want to get into a war with Russia. Russia took over Crimea in 2014, so Ukraine already was experiencing aggression from them. Other countries are still in NATO, because of Russian aggression.
A cold war is a state of conflict between nations that is characterized by political and economic actions, rather than direct military confrontation. The term is most often used to describe the conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union from 1947 to 1989
"The expansion of NATO is something that many people around the world do not want, but the governments in Eastern Europe want it regardless."
That is because many people in the world do not know Russia's tendency to attack and oppress its neighbors and also they are physically not threatened by it. We in Eastern-EU know that tendency well. I also heard RU has an extensive network of agents spreading misinformation, claiming to be the good guys in the former 3rd world. If somebody doesn't live next to Putin's Russia they can make you believe anything, sow chaos and ambiguity. So much about what 'people of the world' think about this situation.
Some Africans support the Russian colonization of Africa? Sounds treason to me. Why change the former colonizer to another?
White Americans might not know much about Russia but we Eastern-European folk know. We know far more of Russian tactics than the whole world after all we had decades and even centuries of it.
We also know about Turks collecting slaves from around this place so a Turkish nationalist is not in a position to stand up for African rights in my opinion.
That’s stating the obvious. However I HIGHLY doubt that anyone outside of the Middle East can resolve a conflict that has been going on for 7 decades in just 4 or 8 years. So putting that kind of pressure on a president is kind of unrealistic, BUT I believe Kamala would give it her best shot. Especially if you think that Donny Dictator would care beyond whatever benefits him the most and that often means it’s to the detriment of everyone else (except the 1% of course).
I agree that worse is true, but the current administration is happy sending bombs to IDF even though it is IDFs plan to turn Gaza into a parking lot, and bury everyone there in mass graves. Certainly Trump will speed up that process, but annihilation is absolute no matter how fast or slow the schedule is.
There is no valid reason not to vote for Harris if you care about Gaza, but let's not pretend like Harris is in any ways good news for Palestinians. It's a bit like celebrating the Labour Party's victory in the UK if you're trans.... Labour hates trans people and trans rights just as much as the Tories, they just have a less aggressive timetable. Ultimately, neither party in the US is willing to meaningfully help Palestinians.
Like many I find it horrible that Gaza's people are suffering the consequences of another war with 40k killed. Is it truly genocide or the consequence of a war. The history and issues are complex. Genocide is defined as a crime committed with the intent to destroy a religious, racial, ethnic or national group like Hamas' charter states regarding Jews. Clearly there needs to be a ceasefire now, a state for the Palestinians and deep involvement of other Arab states. It will take generations to undo the hate which has been taught to children. Anyway, why isn't there similar outrage and demonstrations of all who are relatively silent when 2 million people in the Congo have died, 400K in Syria, 500K in the Sudan or the Uyghur people in China where there is a textbook example of genocide? Selective outrage smells of something else.
I said 40K have been killed (reported by the Hamas Health Ministry) many of whom were Hamas. Displaced is not the same as killed. Nonetheless there needs to be a ceasefire, Arab states need to be deeply involved, a Palestinian state is needed and Hamas be disarmed having started this latest round and used most of the aid money meant for Gazans to construct tunnels and buy weapons.
RCTs are impossible to do for GAC, the effects of hormones would be obvious to the subjects of the study. Anyone demanding that RCTs be used on GAC, in order for it to be valid, should be dismissed as an idiot who doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
Being a former conservative (repression is a hell of a drug), I can say with authority this is 100% correct. The mindset of most republicans is to listen to the talking heads every day and repeat the talking points, after all who needs to do any research when your favorite host has done it for you? If you scratch the surface of any of the “facts” they spew it’s all misinformation or lies.
Most of them are idiots, blindly repeating talking points so they can sound smart when justifying their own biases. But the really dangerous ones are the ones who write the talking points in the first place. They know *exactly* what they're talking about
Oh, Florida. Really trying to EARN that reputation as "the flaccid penis of the United States"...
On the plus side, maybe all of the MAGA maroons who would potentially heed such quackery will be sick come early November and help tip the state toward voting for Harris/Walz sanity rather than fascist hatemongering? A girl can dream, anyway...
Sadly, too many third parties, which are really just spoilers.
I don't begrudge people that want to change things by starting a third-party movement, but I don't think that starting it now, of all times, will work...
Despite all they've done, this particular development really caught my attention. Unlike trans issues, which are a hot-button issue, vaccination is something which, until recently, has only been controversial with fringe idiots, and state governments wouldn't see any point (no matter how republican they are) in pandering to those kinds of wackjobs. This feels like the inevitable next step in the Trump republican party.
It's almost like they're all anti-science weirdos who want to force their harmful beliefs on all of us through threat of law and violence, scientific reality and human rights be damned.
For goodness sake, any legit randomized double blind study with a covid vaccine would be stopped before it finished because the vaccines work so well. This happens often with clearly effective treatments when it becomes obviously unethical to withold the treatment from the control group.
Taliban bubba style. What P’sOS. Hard to believe that this is happening in 2024. I grew up thinking America was destined for great progress. It’s devastating that it’s turned out to be the opposite. 💔
In 2019 at 69 years of age I located a sister I have never met. She lives in Jacksonville, Florida. I will not be going to Florida to meet her. My hope is that she will be willing at my expense to meet me in another Queer friendly state. According to her FB page I am sure it would be a challenge to meet up due to our opposite political views. Sadly the four siblings I found all appear to be felon followers. I have to remember and embrace that you can choose your family. My heart so goes out to those whose families have excommunicated them. Just one of those days when the crap hitting me harder than usual.
Erin I worry about you and how you manage to read, monitor and post all the depressing hate filled legislation. I hope it is your way of dealing. Hopeful you make healthy decisions for you and yours. I love you, value you and appreciate you.
Booster-specific randomized controlled trials? What would such a thing look like? We know the vaccine works and that previous boosters have been effective based on retrospective trials. That's as close as anything can get to what they're going on about.
Sure, o. K., We'll do a randomized trial and even make it double blind. We'll get 500 volunteers who are willing to take a fifty-fifty chance with their lives, that they may or may not get the vaccine or a placebo shot of saline.
Only the volunteers who may want the vaccine will want to be part of the study, but how many of them are willing to take the chance that they (may not get) a possibly life saving vaccination. We could choose a group of volunteers who don't believe vaccines work but most of them wouldn't want to take the chance of possibly (getting) the vaccine because they believe that vaccines cause health problems.
Looks like we'll just have to wait for North Korea or some similar dictatorship to do a study on its unknowing and expendable citizenry.
Quite a lot of us would be dead already if we had waited for a six year study of the covid vaccine to be completed before taking it.
This follows the same logic of the folks who say puberty blockers are experimental and haven't been extensively studied enough to deem safe. If the administration of puberty blockers saved a child's life it was worth the health risk.
Just like there is little regard for the lives of trans people in Florida, given the number of elderly in the state the anti-vax people especially the Florida Gov. and Bd of Health play politics. If we used pseudoscience and double blind studies as the standard much of our health care and medicines would be gone. There is so little regard for people especially children who will bear the brunt of this hate for decades.
I’ve been a nurse for a very long time. When people start going on about only accepting evidence-based medicine, I hand them this from the UK: “ Parachute use to prevent death and major trauma related to gravitational challenge: systematic review of randomised controlled trials.” Because clearly, there are many cases where such trials are unethical.
I will vote Harris-Walz this November.
Even though I oppose the genocide in Gaza, I oppose the incoming genocide toward trans people here as well.
I don't really have a choice in this matter.
Also Trump would worse for Gaza on top of wanting Ukraine to fold to Putin.
Well, I'm Dominican and Turkish and many people overseas want Russia and Ukraine to have peace talks so we can stop this Cold War in its tracts and prevent nuclear warfare between USA and Russia, but that's not happening any time soon.

"colonialist imperial power"
So is America.
Actually, the war started when there were rumors that Ukraine would join, and Zelensky still wants Ukraine to join.
I mean it's not a cold war, Putin is invading. If Putin was taken out things would be better.
It's a Cold War, we're living under the threat of nuclear annihilation...
A cold war is a state of conflict between nations that is characterized by political and economic actions, rather than direct military confrontation. The term is most often used to describe the conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union from 1947 to 1989
Then this is a Cold War.
They want to colonize Africa now, e.g. see below:
https://africacenter.org/spotlight/mapping-a-surge-of-disinformation-in-africa/
"Russia is the single largest sponsor of Africa-wide disinformation campaigns with 16 of these far-reaching operations."
"Russia is the single largest sponsor of Africa-wide disinformation campaigns with 16 of these far-reaching operations."
That would be America.
If you knew Russia like we Eastern-Europeans do, you would know that you sucked up Russian misinformation and yes that is Russia.
Many left-wing Eastern Europeans fled Eastern Europe due to economic turmoil.
Much of the governments and media are right-wing.
And no, America's multinationals are all over the world.
Many Africans support Russia though and fly Russian flags.
White Americans do not know better than the majority of people in the world.
Some Africans support the Russian colonization of Africa? Sounds treason to me. Why change the former colonizer to another?
White Americans might not know much about Russia but we Eastern-European folk know. We know far more of Russian tactics than the whole world after all we had decades and even centuries of it.

No, not "some." Many.
Many support Russian support over American support. Even my friends in Angola and Kenya and Zimbabwe and Algeria tell me so.
American support of African states has only benefited right-wing corrupt governments for the past few decades and with little to show for it.
I ain't no Turkish nationalist and what you say is chauvinistic. You shouldn't attack people based on their nationality or ethnicity.
I mean I oppose fracking but I’m voting for her 🤷♂️ can’t have everything perfect. Also the alternative is skin crawlingly appalling….
Genocide is worse than fracking...
That’s stating the obvious. However I HIGHLY doubt that anyone outside of the Middle East can resolve a conflict that has been going on for 7 decades in just 4 or 8 years. Yes, I am Turkish, and recently, a fellow Turk was killed by the war.
They were an American citizen as well.
That could've been me...
Eh I wouldn't say Harris hates Gaza, either likes oil or worries about the fallout from dropping Zion support.
Like many I find it horrible that Gaza's people are suffering the consequences of another war with 40k killed. Is it truly genocide or the consequence of a war. The history and issues are complex. Over a million have been displaced by the genocide in Gaza. That's over 1 million, not 40k.

Those in power demanding it know that. The ones voting for them don't care enough to learn.
And sometimes, they get into power by stopping others from voting or taking their right away to vote...
Being a former conservative (repression is a hell of a drug), I can say with authority this is 100% correct. Very difficult to study minors, too, harder than adults. More rules and restrictions so as not to cause irreversible harm.
Oh, Florida. Really trying to EARN that reputation as "the flaccid penis of the United States"...

Third party will never work in the US with the current election laws, congressional seat cap, and gerrymandering.
Only at the smallest local level is it remotely feasible where you have to convince a few hundred to few thousand to elect a person.
It's a fantasy to vote 3rd party and only gives the party least like your beliefs more power.
Conspiracism and anti-intellectualism roled into one.
Same as it ever was for the past 40 years with the Repubs.
It's almost like they're all anti-science weirdos who want to force their harmful beliefs on all of us through threat of law and violence, scientific reality and human rights be damned.
Not just scientific reality and human rights, but the common welfare.
Seems we often forget that last part, nowadays...
Best avoid going to church, there are no RCTs to support its benefit :P
For goodness sake, any legit randomized double blind study with a covid vaccine would be stopped before it finished because the vaccines work so well. This happens often with clearly effective treatments when it becomes obviously unethical to withold the treatment from the control group.
