Everything that was said in the last line- exactly that! "This does not mean we will be free from harm and suffering under this Administration, but if we resist complying in advance, we hold more power than they want us to know we have." Beautifully written and true. Of course we fight this and make sure the establishment does as well. This is why we have voices.
Wish I had more faith in businesses and institutions to not capitulate. The amount of cowardice in the last seven months has been shocking and disappointing, to say the least.
For real. And I already had such a low estimation of institutions that people called me cynical. But even I was shocked by how quickly it all folded like a house of cards. Besides a bunch of hollow slogans, there really was nothing holding it all up.
Pam Bondi is young. May she suffer UTIs, bladder/bowel control issues, kidney stones, IBS, and diverticulosis for the rest of her life. And the same for all her MAGA colleagues.
So, I'm safe here in Europe, but for my brothers and sisters back in the old country, I would suggest responding this way if challenged by any business establishment about which bathroom you're using: "I am using the bathroom that is safest for me. If you insist I must use the other bathroom, I can do so, but if anything bad happens to me, my attorney is prepared to sue you into oblivion. Here is his/her card. Now, where is it that you want me to pee?"
This might offer me a great opportunity to shame some female busybodies. I'm a born female who has has always identified as female who has spent a life time of being harassed by women in public bathrooms for failing to conform to their ideas of what a woman looks like. When I was young, this scared and hurt me -- but now that I am in my late 70s, I give them a lot of vigorous education (unless they are just so obviously young and confused or foreign that I have to be gentle.) These days I'm inured to these encounters and sometimes even enjoy them.
Bathroom bans are as ridiculous as they are cruel. Don’t they realize that cis women - particularly non-gender-conforming ones - are going to be the main victims of these bans? Because there are so many more of them (compared to trans people), they will get ensnared by bans a long time before some trans women will, who can sometimes be very gender-nonconforming. Also, who is going to enforce this and how? So does this mean that every person - cis and trans - needs to carry their birth certificate with them prior to entering a public restroom, or a doctor’s note verifying their genitourinary anatomy? This is just preposterous.
They do realize that. It's part of the point. They don't just want to push trans people clean off the edge of society; they also want to enforce conservative gender norms on everyone who's left. Haircuts, clothing, the whole nine yards. And they don't need a secret Gender Police to do it, either- they'll just do what every authoritarian regime 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 does, and turn everyday people against each other so that everyone has to be suspicious of everyone else, all the time. That's what those damnable bounty laws in TX, etc. are laying the groundwork for: an all-consuming culture of fear and paranoia.
If you're a small business owner, now is the time to switch to gender-neutral bathrooms- and to enact a strict "leave other people alone while they pee" policy. Someone tries to play Crotch Inspector in your establishment? Show 'em the sidewalk outside, ass first. Just because corporate America is full of Quislings and cowards doesn't mean every single bar, burger joint, and boutique in the country needs to follow suit. If your "about us" page includes that phrase local businesses so love to use- "proudly serving the community-" then take your own advice and do it with some 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘣𝘰𝘯𝘦.
This policy has the potential to affect every single one of us, regardless of where you live, work, or go about your day. Don't comply and let them tell you what restroom to use. Don't go out of your way to use a single-occupancy to avoid confrontation. Be bold and courageous. Make them make things awkward. We only lose if we give up. We all need to be united in our joyful defiance.
Fuck Pam Bondi. And everyone else in this administration as well.
Damn right! Piss on all of them.
Inshallah, my siblings, we will dance on their graves.

At the end of the day, the average American is not brave. Think more pigeon and less eagle.

“Suggestions”
I’m so ready for this timeline to be over.
I’m suggesting everyone in this regime take a dirt nap, beginning with Bondi.
I wouldn’t want her to feel discriminated against.
🖕🏼

so in a sense they know they would lose court challenges, so better just be bullies and make vague insinuations and threats...

Pam Bondi dropped Trump’s Florida pedo charges. She’s scum.
Can't believe we aren't even at the one year mark yet.
Pam Bondi oughta book a consult with my FFS surgeon.
I like there was some hope in this message!
Thank you for your work here, S Baum.
What a crock. I sure hope that folks this is aimed at do not take it seriously.
