I don’t want this to set a precedent. I’m already scared enough for my community, and anti-trans hate has already been too normalized and emboldened.

Sad day in the US, and unfortunately gonna be our nightmare with Project 2025 coming up in hurting the LGBTQIA+ Community.

As usual thank you for reporting Erin, please make sure you and Zooey enjoy the holidays, honeymoon and able to take a break to re charge.

Meanwhile, with all of these bad news with attacks of the LGBTQIA+ that is happening globally, what is everyone doing in self care to temporarily detox from the terrible news that is going on while still being informed.

I may not be able to respond to everyone but trying to practice self care is hard these days yk.

On coping.

I try to still get in a run some days. I'm trying to finally take the leap and start practicing my voice (something holding me back forever). That said, it's hard. Warm baths, a hot cup of tea, my favorite music. Simple things are my coping mechanism, though they only go so far (burned out in my career and have to find a job, too). Also it's been helpful for me to watch boards and help people find access to care, whatever the situation requires. And archiving our various literature, should certain things come to pass.

Rather than read the news over breakfast I make it a point to talk to my spouse or I read books. I skim the headlines, most of it is fluff and the papers like the Post and the NYT have lost their spine. Nothing on YouTube, Tik-tok and such except for a few favorites on Patreon. And, of course, Erin in the Morning. Managing media intake is a helpful step.

I seem to be having a recurring dream, in which I'm stricken with inconsolable grief, breaking into a long, wailing song reminiscent of that haunting vocal on Side A of Dark Side of the Moon. It's somehow cathartic, but I wake up feeling empty and wishing I had a voice worth listening to.

I wrote Schumer’s office yesterday asking him to sign on as a co-sponsor. I received this in response: Dear Ms. Kristensen:

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for federal protections against discrimination in health care experienced by transgender people. I agree the federal government must work to protect these rights.

As you likely know, a number of Republican-led states have implemented or considered actions aimed at limiting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) access to gender affirming health care. Inversely, at the federal level, under the leadership of President Biden, the Department of Health and Human Services is working to broaden nondiscrimination health protections based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

On July 25, 2022, the Biden Administration issued a new proposed rule on the Affordable Care Act's (ACA) nondiscrimination requirement, referred to as Section 1557. This proposed rule would not only roll back several Trump-era policies that sought to roll back health care civil rights protections adopted during the Obama Administration, but it would also extend these safeguards in several ways.

As Senate Majority Leader, I am committed to passing federal legislation to update the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include protections for all LGBTQ+ Americans. That is why I was proud to cosponsor the Equality Act (S.393), legislation that sought to update the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to expand legal protection to prohibit discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Similarly, I fought hard to pass H.R.8404, the Respect for Marriage Act, which was signed into law on December 13, 2022. This legislation repeals the Defense of Marriage Act, which discriminates against same-sex couples, and prohibits states from refusing to recognize marriage on the basis of sex, race, ethnicity, or country of origin. Going forward, I will continue the fight for full equality against the forces of bigotry and hate, for everyone to be able to live their truth.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Please keep in touch with your thoughts and opinions.

Sincerely,

Charles E. Schumer

So I just wrote back just now: How dare you send this to me, and the next day kill Senator Baldwin’s amendment to the NDAA. It is crystal clear to the transgender community that the Democratic. Leadership has entirely given up on protecting us.

You should expect a less than warm welcome in the LGB(T)Q community than that to which you have become accustomed. I know I will be certain to attend any and all Pride Events advertising your participation to vocally remind you of the disgust I am filled with by the actions of the party I joined when I first registered to vote in 1986. I changed my Democratic Party registration in October, already disgusted with the apathetic response of your party to the viscous attacks of the Republicans. You think yourself better than them. You are wrong, because you are now complicit in the passage of transgender care bans.

Shame on you.

And it should go without saying that I will not contribute a single further dollar to your party until you demonstrate a commitment to protecting transgender individuals. Demonstrate as in deeds, not empty and false promises (see your email below.)

Yeah, he won’t care. No, I don’t feel better writing this. I will be, as I have been, shit posting his and other Democrat’s social media posts about how much they support the LGBTQ+ community. Please join me. They really don’t like that (or at least I know my local NYS Assemblyperson doesn’t like it, her office called me to tell me so and promised to do better; a promise I fully expect her to fail to keep.

All well and good, but I have been in the chamber or in committee rooms when the Equality Act has been voted down or tabled -- since the early 2000s. Promising to pass it is pie in the sky right now. Democrats must commit to incremental protections if they can't find the poltical will or huzpa to do the whole job.

Fuckers.

And it probably didn’t matter as Musk derailed the budget deal. Can’t spend those allocations anyway. In theory.

Remember when Fetterman said he would never abandon the trans community. I do.

Here's where I say "as a trans vet-". Fuck these backstabbing pieces of shit, but I could have told you this would happen. Vets are the first Congress will toss under the bus and that goes twice for the queer ones and their families. Don't ask don't tell, Manning, the 2017 trans ban, this today, and my VA provided HRT tomorrow. This happens while we deal with WMD lies, stop loss, Abu Grab, smoke pits, the fall of Kabul too. Same shit different day. An OIF/OEF veteran MP turned anarchist probably makes sense to somebody now. Let me know when you're ready for a general strike.

I’m honestly not surprised anymore.

I saw one of my trans friends post on a different social media platform earlier today that Disney removed a trans character from one of their upcoming movies. I’ll just simply repeat what I said on that post:

Profits over progress.

Something will give eventually but I highly doubt any of us will be around to see it

Hey, this scene has been leaked (the sketch). It's a perfect depiction of dysphoria that was so badly needed right now. Not linking for dmca, but searching 'Win or Lose' cut sketch should find it. It breaks my heart that kids won't get this, nor cis people to understand.
