The Texas one really hits me. I transitioned 2011-2013 in Texas. In 2013, I lost my job, in large part due to my trans status. I fortunately had my gender marker updated at the time, and I was able to find another in time to keep myself afloat. At that new job, I was not out to my employer. I simply applied as myself and didn't mention my trans status. Knowing what I do about that second employer, I would likely not have been hired if I was out.

If this policy had been place in 2013, I would have ended up homeless, doing sex work, or both. I'm someone who is highly educated, I have a master's degree in an engineering field. I started transition right out of college and didn't have a lot of financial resources to fall back on. If I hadn't been able to stay employed, I would have been in real trouble.

That is what ID changes mean to me. I was able to keep a roof over my head thanks to being able to update mine. I finished my undergrad in an engineering discipline in three years, and my masters in a year. I am well educated and a decently intelligent person. Without being able to update my ID, I would have been living on the street. THAT is what ID changes mean.

These people are monsters. They better hope their religion is wrong and that there is no Hell. Because if there is, I have zero doubt that they will be going there.

This is vile and completely unlawful. Bostock already signaled that state agencies must refrain from unequal treatment based on born sex, even in the context of gay or trans people. A guy who is AFAB must have the same access to an M gender marker as someone born male.

I hope it's challenged immediately.

So correct about unequal treatment!

In brief I believe it’s fair to say: Mankind means Humankind, and must be inclusive of all of humanity. Americans are instructed in our Constitution; it is self evident that all men are created equal, including our brothers whom society labels female at birth. No matter how we label ourselves and others, all are due basic human kindness, dignity and respect. Words do not define us, our character does. Because each of is unique and different; all regardless of sex; gender, skin tones, or hormones: must be seen equally under the laws of the land.

We must support those who work to ensure equality, and resist those who seek to divide us.

What I want to see (or do if someone can guide me how) is to tally up all of the legal costs taxpayers fund for defense vs lawsuits against anti trans laws. I know when people see the eye-popping dollar amounts they will question whether it could be worth it to target us

I love this idea let's quantify how much money they spend of our tax dollars on hatred and cruelty.

I think you should start a GoFundMe for this purpose and you'll have to become somewhat of an investigator reporter you may even have to use Freedom of information act requests in order to get some of the information you need.

I'd totally be open to doing that but do I just like go to some website to send a FOIA and just request all their legal relating to certain cases?

The Texas policy and similar policies in other states are cruel, discriminatory and devastating to the daily lives of trans people. So they won’t even do name changes on DLs that accompany a gender reassignment? So that means that not only your gender marker, but also your name, on your DL would be at odds with your passport, SS card, birth certificate, etc.? That is just so cruel. It also seems to be unconstitutional as it denies equal protection to trans people. Getting pulled over in a traffic stop - to cite one example - would now be a very serious matter under these circumstances.

I hope the ACLU or similar organizations can file suit against this policy.

Unfortunately, if the GOP wins in November, expect this same odious stuff at the federal level too. The only glimmer of hope would be whether politically blue Democratic states would be able/willing to resist such federal policies and guarantee accurate IDs - and thus the daily safety - of the trans people within their states.

I had my name and gender corrected in 1999 in Texas. I wonder when they're coming for me? I'll definitely leave the state if they take my identity from me.

I'm done with Missouri. My adult trans daughter will be getting her surgery soon and then our queer family is getting out of this nut house and moving to Minnesota. I've live here almost all of my life and it's gone from OK to bad to terrible because the republicans have been in control for the last 40 yrs. I've tried to explain to some of my friends that don't live here just how bad it is and they don't get it. Republicans need to realize it's none of their damn business!!!

I heard about this before your post because it affected someone I know. They grew up in Texas but transitioned in Washington. They changed all of their documentation, Washington state and federal, from their sex assigned at birth to the opposite gender. They recently moved back to Texas and went to the DMV for a new Texas license, but they were unable to obtain one with their actual gender on it.

They left without a license, not knowing what to do. Either they get a Texas license with a gender marker that is inaccurate and doesn't match any of their other legal documents, or they don't get a license. They basically have no legal recognition for their existence.

They're going to get by on their WA license until it expires and hope for the best.

And, just to make things extra fun, they found out *after the fact* that they probably got onto the creepy gender change registry, because their appointment was on the day of the policy change but before anyone outside the DMV and AG offices really knew about it.

Due to all this bullshit, we'll now open ourselves up to getting harassed if we're ever pulled over by the cops. TSA as well. These people know they're creating hell on Earth for us and enjoying every minute of it. They're the ones who will end up there, because this is inhumane. Guess what, though? They're not really Christians and could care less they'll end up in a place they probably don't believe in. SMFH

I am planning on getting a name and gender change order in the coming year. I was born in Texas, but no longer live there. It seems to me (IANAL) that there would be a cause of action under the "Full Faith and Credit" clause of Article IV of the Constitution if they denied me my birth certificate change. Yes, I know, that's not what they are doing ... yet.

Of course, with the current makeup of the Federal Courts? It likely wouldn't get very far. :sigh:

Or maybe, as in my case, they don't have the resources, or the trust in the judicial system, to even bother. BTW: In case you haven't heard, they have begun denying the birth certificate changes. And no, I won't bother pursuing it. At least, not for now. There are other ways of proving my identity still available to me. Should DJT get elected, that all goes out the window.

So much for checks and balances. What's the court going to do, anyway- order the AG to arrest himself if he doesn't submit to their other order? This is what we can expect nationwide, if Republicans get their hands on the White House again- and with even less restraint, since they already have the Supreme Court in their pocket. The rule of law means nothing to these people. If they can't change the laws to suit their purpose, they'll just break them. If they can't put a right-wing judge on the bench, they'll just ignore the court. They don't care that they'll break our entire system of government by doing shit like this, because that's part of their endgame, too.

Damn, I shouldn't have read this after that dynamic DNC. I've never seen anything like it, because when Pres. Obama got elected, I was in the hospital. I do recall all the excitement when Robert Kennedy was running, but I didn't see the DNC.

I was on such a high, and I still am, but this watered it down somewhat. We continue to be their targets and now they'll pick up the tempo for fear of VP Harris becoming President. She has vowed, indirectly, to protect us. They're also hoping they can cheat their way back into the White House. I'm real sick of this roller coaster ride and I'm tired.
