"But by providing only vague guidance as to which performances it prohibits, the Act wields a shotgun when the First Amendment allows a scalpel at most."
Florida Republicans, probably: "𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 effect? Well, shucks, that's easy to fix; we'll just light up a few libraries' worth of books and it'll warm right back up!"
I’m curious why there hasn’t been more coverage here about Texas SB 1257, the detransitioners bill that just passed the Texas house. I fully understand that you can’t cover everything, but I’m wondering if it’s not being covered as much just for that reason, or if it’s not as damaging as it seems. It seems like it would effectively ban trans care for adults in Texas, but maybe I am not understanding it correctly. Again, no criticism of the work you’re doing, I’m always so thankful for how well you keep us informed! (And apologies if you did cover it and I just missed it)
And hopefully we'll get to the point it is acknowledged a half a dozen other amendments also prohibit such prohibitions.
But right now I am just hoping this is sustained by higher courts.
They’re SO worried about kids, but they leave up the billboards that litter the Turnpike & I-75 with adult entertainment & toy stores.
This is about gender conformity. Defining it. Enforcing it. Coercing it.
One day I expect to read about Florida arresting assigned females for wearing male assigned clothing styles.

“…for now, the First Amendment holds.”
This is good news indeed. Thanks for such comprehensive reporting, Erin!
Erin, has there been an update to the national risk for trans folks map? I find it an incredibly helpful resource.

Why are there laws restricting what anyone wears within reason. It was a bad idea in the past and it's still a bad idea.
