Every attempt to compromise with authoritarian scapegoating of a minority undermines democracy. The only way to win this game is to refuse to play.

You don’t even have to care about trans rights specifically to understand this one. It’s that basic.

Anti-Trans Dems are the equivalent of prisoners volunteering to be first in line for the firing squad because they heard they would get extra credit.

I read a post like yours and the reality of it brings a smile. I am for sure going to be quoting you when I write my legislators to voice my opposition to their anti-trans hate filled messages. Thank you

I haven't supported the DCCC for a very long time, but this is the most atrocious thing they've ever done. I messaged them through their website. I highly suggest that everyone either call them or message them, if you haven't already.

Good for AOC! Cast my vote for Troy yesterday. Susan Collins is such a fraud. Thank you for the great reporting, Erin.

It IS wrong to abandon trans people, who are our neighbors, (as in love thy neighbor).

I'm glad to see support from AOC AES and Andy breashear.

So disappointed by dems going anti transgender for their donors. I think they took the wrong lesson from 2024.

First, let me say that I disagree with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on several issues. But on this subject, I agree wholeheartedly with her. She is absolutely right that Democrats should never be afraid to stand up for and support the transgender and LGBTQ+ communities.

Although these communities represent a smaller segment of the population, they are a voting bloc whose voices, rights, and votes matter. They should never be treated as political liabilities or used as scapegoats to win elections. They are human beings who deserve the same respect, dignity, equality, and support as everyone else.

Democrats must stop being afraid of standing up for what is right. Caving to Republican attacks and anti-transgender rhetoric will not solve anything. It only emboldens those who want to strip away the rights of others.

The transgender and LGBTQ+ communities deserve leaders who will stand with them, not abandon them when political pressure mounts. Equality and human dignity should never be negotiable for political convenience.

EXACTLY!! Democrats need to stop being afraid to stand up for what’s right.

Caving to bullies only empowers them.

What a great campaign slogan for Democrats: We Care About Everyone.

Even people who are transgender? Of course! That's how you know, we'll even fight for you!

I'm being a little facetious. Pick any downtrodden group of people. This election cycle the transgender folks may make the most sense.

You could do a whole series, subbing in other groups. (immigrants, black people, etc.)

That’s what a big tent party is supposed to be.

Amy Marchand Collins, CCHW's avatar

I genuinely think that IS a great slogan. We care about everyone.

Kind of reminds me of an itinerant preacher I heard about a long time ago. What was it he said? Oh yeah,

“Love one another. Love your neighbors.”

Love your reporting Erin but I am not aligned with your ongoing theme. It is naive to ever have believed every Democrat will always support all trans rights. It is also extreme to brand everyone who takes a stance on a particular component to be anti trans at their core. Some see it as nuanced. And, yes, many are simply uneducated. And no doubt some are just politically opportunistic and should have no place in elected office. But risking overt generalizations carries disproportionate community risk as well.

It may be naive, but that’s because people confuse values with policy. Values have no opposites.

You can’t make exceptions to exclude one group from basic human rights without eventually undermining everyone’s. There is room for nuance in policy applications, balancing everyone’s interests, but thats not what anti trans rhetoric is about.

AOC should put her money where her mouth is and leave that rotten party, as should any Democrat that doesn't want to be complicit in harming minoritized citizens

Amy Marchand Collins, CCHW's avatar

Actually AOC HAS been putting her money where her mouth is— she has donated plenty to candidates who need it, and she’s been out campaigning for them too.

Kind of annoyed Ramaswamy is such a weak and despicable candidate that he's guaranteeing a transphobic democrat will win in Ohio.
