Thinking Texas needs to be no-travel too at this point.

Born and raised in Texas. I'm still more comfortable driving through there than in Florida or the Deep South, but that's probably because I know the people

Can confirm that Kansas has been reversing legal changes to documents. Happened to my husband- they sent him a copy of his BC with the gender marker change reversed.

That is absolutely disgraceful. But I’m assuming he still has the BC copy with the correct gender on it? They’re not kicking in the front door in an effort to retrieve it, hopefully?

I live in Oregon with a Lesbian Gov. I will never take that for granted. Yes we have haters but the "love" is loud and clear. I do get annoyed (pissed) when folks say if you don't like the laws just move. First of all impossible for some. Secondly "WHY SHOULD ANYONE HAVE TOO." It will be interesting to watch the VP debate tomorrow night. Most Queer supporters do not know how critical it is to mention transgenders separately. The haters realized that the Queers have a level of safety and inclusiveness so chose to direct their hate attention towards trans. I am not trans so truly do not speak on behalf of trans. Just rattling my thoughts and thinking out loud here.

So… a transgendered person walks into a bathroom according to their gender assigned at birth, - people will scream when a man (assigned female at birth) walks into the ladies room and visaversa. My god! This world has gone crazy.

That's not a bug to the proponents of these bills; it's how they want them to work. They want trans people to be attacked. :-(

The list-making alone should earn Texas its "Florida Stripes."

Erin - these risk assessment maps are always interesting and helpful! Though also depressing at times. Thank you

The governor of Illinois is J.B. Pritzker. His cousin is Jennifer Pritzker, the world's only transgender billionaire. His record might've been just as exemplary without having someone in his family who is a trans woman, but it sure makes this trans Chicagoan feel a lot safer.

Erin, if you are ever looking for a bit of a 'feel good' essay amidst all the horror, that might be an interesting topic to go into for a piece.

Why is Texas allowed to ignore court rulings without penalty???

Do you think it would be appropriate to lower Nebraska on the Youth map to a light red status? Compared to other dark red states, we have the surgery ban, but there is no puberty plocker or HRT ban (though there are troublesome guidelines for these). Nebraska has no state-level sports participation bans, bathroom bans, pronoun restrictions, forced outings at school, or book bans.

Nebraska's executive order that defines sex can be used in a ton of really bad ways. I've generally kicked all of the "Define sex" laws into high risk because they can be used for bathroom bans, drivers license bans, etc:

Hiya Erin! Just a small formatting thing – the hyperlink on "travel advisories" also includes the space before the words, which looks slightly odd and is inconsistent with the rest of the article. Great read otherwise, though!

I'm glad you are feeling better Erin and that you are producing more of late but I really don't mind if you want to allow guest riders to be featured in your column they seem to be doing a good job during your absence, not that I didn't miss you.

We are still battling things out here in MO. I truly hope we can oust chief POS Attorney General Andrew Bailey in Nov. We are working hard to turn this state from red to blue and fight these horrible anti-trans laws. There is a lawsuit right now challenging MO's gender affirming care restrictions: https://missouriindependent.com/2024/10/02/credibility-of-states-expert-witnesses-questioned-in-missouri-transgender-health-care-trial/
