REFUSAL, PROFESSIONALLY DELIVERED: Queer women directors offered work on HBO's Harry Potteranswered, on the record, "Absolutely f**king not!" The show will print money for an author who spent six years building a second career out of trans people's misery. They turned down the check.
This capitulation to hatred is often to avoid legal costs, yet it comes at a much higher cost. Something far more profound. Something that can’t always be recuperated. Our hearts. Our souls. Our humanity.
JK Rowling has opposed trans rights in the UK by swinging her epstein-class bank account around like a weapon. She's never had to rely on the facts, which is good for her, because factually, being trans doesn't hurt anyone. Trans people using bathrooms and playing sports and games doesn't hurt anyone. But transphobia does hurt us. She's got blood on her hands.
Amnesty UK has stood tall in the past when faced with criticism and threats, defending the rights of vulnerable and marginalized communities. That is why it is so deeply disappointing to see them appear to back down after threats of legal action from Rollins.
If an organization dedicated to human rights will not stand up for the transgender community when it matters most, it raises serious questions about its principles, its courage, and its credibility.
This decision is deeply upsetting. Amnesty UK’s reputation is built on standing up for human rights—even when doing so is difficult. If they surrender when threatened, what confidence can we have in what they say or defend in the future?
Human rights should not depend on who is making the threat.

After she published the NYT LLM analysis, I have been considering becoming a paid subscriber to Alejandra's blog all summer. This made my decision.
Throwing my $50 into this fight. Go get 'em. ;)
I guess we can add Amnesty International to the list of organizations that are detrimental to trans rights.
More good work from Alejandra by standing up to Rowling backed censorship.
