feels like we are absolutely going backwards- such a very scary time. Appreciate you keeping us abreast of what’s happening in the LGBTQ community worldwide.

iirc, many of the same groups pushing this in the US have been using other countries as practice runs before bringing their legislation here.

At this point Attack Surface by Cory Doctorow should be required reading for insight into how these groups and governments operate.

This is so frightening. 21st-century technology makes all of our lives convenient, but sadly it can easily be weaponized by authority figures that want to target vulnerable groups.

Coming to soon to the United States of America!

I mean, it's legal for Homeland Security to do surveillance on people because of gender and sexuality, and given how the majority of conservatives are both bigoted and cruel, and that they have a near-monopoly of federal power, I find it EXTREMELY unlikely that they won't use their power that way.

If I were them, I would have cardboard masks printed with the Prime Minister's face on them for everyone to wear.

Two thoughts to keep in mind as we navigate the line between hope and despair:

- It is possible to overstate their power.

- It is not possible to overstate their intentions.

Respectfully disagree. Trump and his admin are working with ABSOLUTE power to do whatever they want.

Per my last discussion with Senator Jeff Merkley, facial recognition is still not legal in the U.S.. TSA is using it in the airports, but you can refuse it, and they Must comply. This was his advice. This may, of course, change, but for now, it is a very important distinction.

Umm that’s fun. So maybe it should be a surveillance themed Pride. You could play the song Digital Witness by Saint Vincent and dress in surveillance themed outfits. I think the important thing is to make sure that there is no gay stuff. Like make it totally straight with straight activities like tug o war and disco dancing. None of that gay EDM stuff

It sounds like a horrid remake of Texas.. One of my sisters did say the governor was just protecting the young. From what? One may well ask. They need to be protected from the church and the Republicans idiots who sit in state houses all around the country and in Washington, DC.

This isn't simply about banning a group of people. This is fundamentally about the government having the authority to tell everyone and anyone what they can do with their bodies.

Thanks, Erin, for another fine report. It’s worth adding that, similar to Russia, over the past decade hundreds of thousands of young, bright Hungarians, many of them LGBTQ, have emigrated from Hungary because of Orban’s policies. Furthermore, Orban continued to be supported by most Hungarians because he deftly manipulated the EU to win Hungary huge subsidies a few years ago the EU finally shut off that tap. Trump’s election is thus a lifeline for Orban.
