fwiw, NY state protects trans people in its state constitution and that didn't stop Mount Sinai or NYU from stopping gender affirming care for youths. at one point AG James called them out on that, but she's been silent since. while I'm happy to see what VT did, I've stopped believing the law is going to protect us.
I'm one of the trans Texans that left. I barely slept last night. I'm so happy. I also have complicated feelings about not being back there to celebrate and having left before getting to enjoy what I spent so much energy working towards once. But mostly I'm just so happy. Go Hinojosa!
Like damn, when I was living back home in Texas working on every campaign big or small and doing the advocacy and all that, I honestly thought I'd be very old or dead when my efforts finally paid off. I just can't believe I'm seeing that pay off now in the governship, the state judicial system, the AG, potentially the state house, a ton of other state houses.... This will be a whole new Texas. If this holds, it'll be the type of place where all sorts of kids grow up happily and all sorts of families go about their business. I'm so damn happy.
Thank you Erin. Hate didn’t win. America is not 100% full of hate. I don’t doubt that the next 2 months are going to be extremely messy until some of these winners can take the reins in January (& even then things won’t change overnight) but for the moment I’m savoring it all this morning!!
